The Dead Canary

No.24
The List

Location – Cardiff

We just can’t get enough of this fabulous bar. The menu is beautifully designed, with each drink on it well considered and backed by a magnificent and somewhat magical tale.

The Dead Canary is one of Cardiff’s best cocktail bars, serving up drinks and fun in a chilled out and trendy environment, with live bands and the kind of frolics you’d expect in Wales.

Expect menus to tell you stories you’d be more than happy to drink your way through, at very reasonable prices that range from £4 for an aperitif to £12 for a cocktail and £55 for sharers.

You’ll also see a fine selection of mocktails if you don’t drink or just want to take it easy – trust us, taking it easy in this bar is just as good as going the whole hog.

The King Arthur (£10) is made using Solera Cask Aged Flor de Cana 4yr Rums, Calvados, almond & coffee golden syrup, Umeshu and Fernet Branca. It is described as complex with a strong wooded character and subtle orchard fruits.

Birds of Rhiannon (£9) is made using Arette Blanco Tequila, Strega, cucumber, lemon, egg white and matcha tea. It is fresh, herbal and grassy.

Or, as we’re in Wales, go for the Red Dragon (£9) made with Ewan Williams Single Barrel, Malbec, Cynar, Chartreuse and habanero shrub. It is spicy, zesty and has charred-oak tannins.

If you’re left feeling inspired, the Dead Canary also hosts cocktail masterclasses for £40 per person, which last two hours. There are three to choose from – gin, rum and whiskey & beer.
