This neighbourhood hangout spot excels in communal bistro-style dining and serves seasonal dishes alongside cocktails, natural wine and beer.
BENCH in Sheffield started out in 2018 as a side project, where dynamic duo Jack Wakelin and chef Tom Aronica brainstormed how they could break the divide between kitchen and bar. Next, they hosted three sold out pop-ups in independent businesses around the city – all focused around communal drinking and dining.
And the rest is history, with the team then setting up BENCH at a permanent address in Nether Edge Road in Autumn 2020.
Cocktails include intriguing concoctions like the Spritz which is made from Isle of Wight tomatoes, white chocolate, lovage, Cattarato and Soda.
There’s also a Negroni and Old Fashioned on the menu, as well as a Whisky Pear and an Americano complete with Belsazar White Vermouth, Campari and plum & fennel soda.
The décor mixes a rustic and modern feel, with wooden tables, black chairs and dried flowers working to create a space that’s naturalistic and neutral-toned.
Complementing the drinks list is a spectacular food menu featuring affordable eats such as grilled mackerel, rebel XO and atomic grape tomatoes or grilled chicken leg with hispi cabbage and miso butter.
There’s also treats like white choc chip & raspberry ice cream or plum & apple crumble to round off the evening on a sweet note.
Should you wish to continue the BENCH experience at home, the bar also offers a natural wine subscription, where bottles are delivered to your doorstep from just £55 a month.
