In truth, the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list is compiled by the bar industry, making it a unique list of venues those in the know like to go. We receive thousands of individual votes from hundreds of voters.
We have polled hundreds of bartenders, managers and drinks experts from across the UK to curate what is a really special list, which has something for every type of drinker.
To ensure each region in the UK has an equal opportunity to shine, our voters are broken down into six geographical regions.
Each voter has four votes, including for one cocktail bar in their region and three others from anywhere else in the UK.
Top 50 Cocktail Bars editor Nicholas Robinson said: “It is refreshing to see bars outside London claiming high spots on the list and gaining the recognition they deserve.
“There is something on the list for everyone, showing that cocktail bars aren’t overpriced, pretentious venues where only those in the know can go.”
Chris Lowe, publisher of Top 50 Cocktail Bars, said: “We have created Top 50 Cocktail Bars to help people find the best bars, which are often hidden, around the UK.
“London still has more bars on the list than any other city, but having almost all of the UK’s major cities represented showcases the explosion of great venues on the cocktail scene.”
There are two additional awards presented at the event – the One To Watch and the Bartender of the Year.
Both awards are decided by a small panel of industry experts who watch what’s going on in the sector and choose the winners who they believe deserve to be recognised.
The winner of the One To Watch award is a bar the judges believe could make it onto the list the next year.
The winner of the Bartender of the Year award is given to a bartender who has done their best to excel and standout from the crowd.
