Bramble is a gem that is well hidden among the streets of Scotland’s capital Edinburgh and is a popular haunt for bartenders, so you know it’s going to be good.
Once you find Bramble, you won’t want to leave. The cocktail bar features a handful of private nooks and crannies for intimate drinks, should you wish to enjoy a romantic evening supping delicious concoctions with a significant other or friends.
The layout of Bramble’s bar area may lend itself well to intimate trysts but it is also an ideal cocktail bar to celebrate or just let loose and enjoy yourself, especially when the live DJs are working their magic at the weekends. Even when the DJs aren’t there, the atmosphere is still pretty lively.
It is a charming, unpretentious bar, despite being highly decorated with accolades from the likes of The World’s 50 Best Bars and others.
Bramble, with its understated bare brick walls, leather armchairs and menus bound in old books, came onto the scene in 2006 with a bang, showing the UK what high-end creative cocktails should look like.
Staff are well dressed, quirky, knowledgeable, friendly and keen to talk through the cocktails and their ingredients. To put it simply, they’re a whole lot of fun to be around.
Bramble’s cocktail menu is an impressive beast, which you’d expect from such a high-flying cocktail bar such as this. The bar staff are incredibly skilled and mesmerising to watch when the bar gets busy.
Cocktail prices at Bramble range from £6.50 to a still reasonable £9 on the main menu, with highlights including the Bramble (£6.50), obviously, the Beaumont (£7), Rosa Parks (£6.50) and Alexander’s Ghost (£8.50).
In keeping with the current thirst for gin – and considering Edinburgh is the gin capital of the UK – there are eight recommended gin serves, including different takes on the gin and tonic, a Gimlet and the dependable gin Martini.
Interesting fact: there are about 40 gins available at Bramble.
Each spirits category is well covered, so those with a distaste for gin needn’t fear the bar. Mezcal, Tequila, whiskies, brandy, vodka and rum all play a key role in cocktails at Bramble.
Not interested in spirits? There’s also a wide range of well-sourced beers, wines and ciders available for the less adventurous or those who just want to take it easy.
The brand also has three other ventures including cocktail events company Mothership, cocktail saloon the Last Word and cocktail bar Lucky Liquor.
